Labor...

For those of you who don't know yet Dylan Jacob Chambers arrived into the world at 5:58 AM on Friday April 2, 2010. He was 7 lbs 1 oz and 19 inches long. He is the most beautiful baby and we are so happy to have him as part of our little family.

My due date was April 5th and I was expecting to go at least to my due date, if not past it. Everyone always says that first babies are normally late and your labors are usually pretty long. Well, that was NOT the case for me. My water broke at 9PM on Thursday evening. My brother Ian and his family had arrived around 4 that afternoon from New Mexico. They were spending the night at our house and then going up to Salt Lake for the weekend. Anyway we were having a nice relaxing evening when Ian decided to play an April Fools Joke on my sister Julia. He wrote on her wall that they had just arrived to our house when I went into Labor and that we were on our way to the hospital. This of course was not happening, but Julia being quite gullible was sucked in. All of a sudden I got a call, then ryan got a call and she was texting us. Neither of us answered cause I am such a bad liar... So we were all laughing about this as it kept going. Meanwhile I have been bouncing on my big exercise ball when I realize I have to go to the bathroom. So I go, then Susan (my sister-in-law) tells me to walk up and down the stairs a few times... so I do. On my second time down I feel a little wet and think I just peed my pants... kinda weird since I JUST went to the bathroom... then I feel a little gush. I run upstairs and go to the bathroom again... I realized quite quickly that it was not pee coming out but clear liquid. I shouted to everyone downstairs that I think my water just broke!! Susan, my Mom and Ryan came up to the bathroom door and were asking me all sorts of questions and we decide that it is definitely amniotic fluid. I decided that it was time to take a shower, shave my legs and get all clean before I go to the hospital. Then I put my "depends" on finish packing my hospital bag.

Since I wasn't having any contractions yet we decided to stay put and hang out for a little bit... We just had fun for awhile chatting and laughing at the little gushes I felt randomly and when I would change positions. It was really quite humorous! We called my Dr. and he told us to come in and get admitted since after your water breaks you only have about 24 hrs until you have to deliver. We got to the hospital around midnight and got all checked in. I still hadn't had any contractions yet so they decided that i had to be induced and put me on pitocin. Soon after the pitocin started I began to feel VERY uncomfortable. My contractions were about a minute and a half long with 30 seconds in between each one. They checked me and I was only at 3+ and 90% efaced. I was MISERABLE and 2 hours after they started me I decided that I needed the epidural. The anesthesiologist was pretty much outside my door ready to go and gave me the lovely shot in my back soon after. My right side quickly became numb and my left was having a harder time. They tried a few things to get my left side numb but nothing was working and all the contraction pain was concentrated in my left hip... can you say OUCH! I was not about to have gotten an epidural for nothing so he came back in and gave me another dose and adjusted the catheter in my back. Soon after my left side was numb and I felt NO pain at all... this was probably around 2:30ish. The nurse told me that her shift ended at 6am so another nurse would probably be the one to deliver and that a different doctor in my group started at 7 so it would most likely be him to deliver. I was fine with that and figured we would have the baby sometime that afternoon.

Well, when she checked me around 5am we were all shocked that I was dilated to 10 cm and that his head was right there! She put my legs up in the stirrups (very weird to look at when you can't feel your legs by the way) and told me to do a practice push just to see since it normally takes first time moms a few hours to push the baby out. I pushed once and the nurse yelled at me to STOP cause the baby was about to come and the Dr wasn't there yet! The Dr. arrived shortly and got all ready to go. I was able to push Dylan out in 3 contractions (about 8 minutes). It was so weird to see this baby come out of me and know that he was all mine. They cleaned him all up and gave him to me. He had curly dark hair and a cute little round head. It was an amazing experience and I actually enjoyed every part of it... even the part before the epidural because now I can be even more grateful for it! I was able to relax and be comfortable and even joke with the dr's and nurses. They were all amazed at how fast I went and warned me that for my next baby I better get to the hospital fast cause I will most likely go even faster next time.

We stayed in the hospital until Saturday evening and have been hanging out at home since. He has had lots of visitors including My mom, Ryans parents and grandma, Ian, Susan, Jaime, Emma, Taylor, Matt, Angie, Sean, Kyle, Jayson, Tyler, Cat, Blake, Benson, Abi, Mike, Penny, Izzy, Derdle, Adrienne, George, Kylee, Hilary, and Greg. I know that Dylan is loved so much already by all of his friends and family. He has blessed our lives so much and it has only been one week since his arrival. He has such a cute personality and is so adorable. Ryan and I both love him and are amazed that we created such a perfect baby. Welcome to the world Dylan! We love you so much!

Baby Showers

This was the weekend of Baby Showers! I had 2 in 2 days! The first was thrown by my friends Cat Potter and Penny Bergeron. (We were all pregnant together at some point and they both have had their babies already). SO I am the last one out of the 3 of us. They did it Saturday morning so it was a breakfast kinda thing. The food was sooo yummy! We had orange juice, oatmeal, banana bread, carrot cake cupcakes, Fruit skewers, a yummy egg dish and cinnamon buns. We played a fun Bethany quiz, measured my belly (which is 41 1/2 inches around!) and tried to figure out what chocolate bar was melted into diapers. We opened presents and just socialized with each other. It was a lot of fun!
This is me almost 37 weeks along. I am getting a lot bigger!!

In my recliner enjoying food!

The cute little motorcycle that cat made... She is very talented.

The "Kohl" girls all pregnant. This is Tahra my niece who is 10 weeks behind me so she is 27 weeks along and LeAnna (my nephew Greg's wife) who is 19 weeks along. Tahra is expecting a boy and LeAnna is having a girl! I was so excited that they could come!
2 of my best friends Cat and Penny. This was taken later on in the day because we forgot to get a shot of us all together. THanks for throwing an awesome shower guys!

This was at my second shower the next day. All the people that came to this one were from Work at Sam's. We had it at Adrienne's house and the food was AMAZING! She made lasagna and breadsticks. Those bread sticks were MONEY. They probably weren't very good for me but they were soooo good! We also had ceasar salad and this way yummy drink. The punch had diet 7 up, concentrated limeade, cucumbers, cut up limes and lots of ice. I was a little hesitant at first but it was the most amazing punch ever. I am going to have to make it again sometime.

A cute little puppet that goes in the bath... Ryan is gonna have a lot of fun with the hippo and baby during bath time!

The amazing cake that Kylee made. She is seriously so talented. Inside was a yellow cake with a chocolate mouse frosting... can I say YUM! I am still nibbling on the left overs... shh don't tell Ryan! We will see if the weight has caught up with me. So far I have gained 28 lbs and I have another dr's appointment today. We will see if I went overboard on eating this weekend.

I am just so grateful to my friends who put both if these showers together. I know how much work it takes to get ready for them and put them on and I really appreciate it. I love you guys!!
I have one more shower this saturday that some ladies at church are throwing for me. It should be interesting since we are still fairly new in the ward. I am not counting on a lot of people showing up, but I guess you never know until you get there! 3 more weeks and this little guy will be here in my arms... I can't wait!

Recent Happenings

Not much has been going on the past month... just getting bigger and bigger! I don't have any recent pictures, I will have to have Ryan take some later on this week. We sold our old car which was a relief... didn't get a whole lot for it but we made a college kid from Haiti very happy! We weren't looking to make much off of it anyway since it was old, run down and we got it for free. I got this brownie pan from Ryan for my birthday and it is AMAZING! It makes perfect brownies every time. We also got an ice cream maker from Mike and Penny... and yummm does it make good ice cream. So if you wanna ever come over for dessert we will hook you up. I also got that cute shirt I am wearing from cat and derdle.
Here is a pregger shot of me on my birthday. I was 28 weeks at that point... and now i am 31. I can't believe I only have 9 weeks left! It's crazy how fast it has gone by.
I Think this was on my birthday too... I don't remember... Pregnancy brain sucks by the way. I can never remember what I came in a room to do and I have to stand their for a few minutes before it clicks.

This is the latest picture and it was taken on the day of Isabelle's (Mike and Penny's little girl) blessing day. Cat had her baby Abigail 3 days later. So she was at 40 weeks and I was at 30 weeks. Now, out of the 3 of us I am the only one left that hasn't had her baby yet.... Why can't these next 9 weeks fast forward by!!

Christmas/New Years

Well we have survived Christmas and all the other good stuff that comes with it! As nice as the Holidays are it is nice to be back to our normal schedule and almost have our house put back together. I still haven't taken down all the christmas stuff... I think our first christmas together I had the tree up till March! A few days before CHristmas we were able to go to the Festival of Lights in Spanish Fork with the Potters. Benson LOVED it! And we were all pretty excited about seeing the lights through an almost 3 year olds eyes... Kids just make christmas more fun don't they!
Here we are with Benson on Christmas Eve... he loved the Dinosaurs we got him!

Ryan and I Christmas eve... Ryan calls my belly a big red tomato in that sweater.

On Christmas eve we went over to the Potters for dinner... had our traditional Meat Pie with all the fixings... yum and just had a fun relaxing evening. Christmas morning we just relaxed then went over to my brothers house to do some more relaxing... I think that there is a trend coming... RELAXING!
The day after Christmas the guests started arriving... Ryan's parents and grandma flew in and we were happy to have them stay at our house... much better now that we have extra bedrooms and 3 bathrooms! We also had my brother Ian and his family stay for 2 nights which was lots of fun! In total we had 13 people staying in our house! I think every room was occupied by at least 1 person. It made me happy to have a full house and people that I don't see very often around me.
We watched the movie "Up" on New Years Eve/Ryan's Birthday. Here I am with Benson and Fenway. Benson was happy that Fenway wasn't jumping all over him.

THe preggers! Cat was 36 weeks pregnant and I was 26 weeks pregnant in this picture... were both growing quickly. I can't believe she only has a few weeks till her little baby girl is here. I can't wait!
Me and the Birthday boy! Gotta love him!
Benson helping Ryan blow out his Candles since he is so old... he needs all the help he can get!

We also were able to celebrate RYan's birthday on New YEars eve... everybody seems to have a party on his birthday every year! He turned the big 27 this year and is already feeling older and more decrepit.

Ryan's Moms friend photoshopped this ultra sound picture since it was just his little arm. We have it on a frame in our living room and can't wait to give him his first baseball to play with. I can already tell he is gonna be quite the slugger with all the moving he is doing inside my belly! I can't believe I only have 3 months left till he is here in our arms... kinda crazy! We have the bedroom pretty much done. We are just waiting on our rocker which should arrive in the next week or so. I will have to take pictures once it is all put together and finished.

I hope everyone has a great new year and that you all start thinking about resolutions... I always think of them but then forget or don't even bother doing them... maybe this year will be different. 201o is the year for us... I just have a feeling!

Thankful

I figured that since it being Thanksgiving and all I would compile a list of things that I am grateful for. I need to be more grateful all throughout the year, not just at Thanksgiving. Oh and they aren't in any particular order or anything.

  • Family- I have one of the greatest families ever... whenever we get together (which unfortunately isn't very often) we have an awesome time. I know we don't say it much, but this seems like as good a time as ever... I love you guys!
  • Pets- Puma and Fenway are part of our family and even though they bug me sometimes they are still my children. I look forward to Puma snuggling under the covers with me at night and just whenever Fenway is being a good puppy.
  • Food- I am grateful for having good food to eat every day and a husband who likes to cook it for me!
  • Little baby Chambers- I know he isn't born yet but I love knowing that I have a little guy in my ever-growing belly. I love feeling him kick when I am relaxing and just knowing that he is doing alright.
  • The Gospel- I am thankful to have the church in my life and for freedom to worship as we wish. I am also glad to be married in the temple to Ryan and to know that we will be together forever.
  • Friends- I have some of the best friends a girl could ask for. They are there when I need them and I appreciate the time we spend together and the activities we do.
  • A Home- We love having a house now and being able to feel more like a family in it. It is perfect for us and we love being able to decorate it and make it feel warm and comfy.
  • Technology- I am so glad that we have computers and internet because I can stay in contact with so many more people than i would normally. It makes life much easier and I am glad I am in this world during the technology era..
  • Neighbors- We have some really great neighbors that are always willing to help us out. Whether it's pulling out a tree stump or taking out our trash when we forget. They are great.
  • Jobs- Even though I don't have the job I would like to have I am very happy that I am working and making money. I am also thankful that Ryan has a full time job where we have awesome benefits and alright pay. We make enough for our needs which is all that I ask.
  • Garage- I LOVE having a garage this year... no more scraping the frost or snow off my car every morning... it is sooooo nice!
  • Hot Cocoa- It is so nice to wake up and get a nice cup of cocoa... I got the stevens candy cane cocoa on sale after christmas last year so I have like 3 big boxes and i LOVE it!
  • My Husband- Ryan is an amazing husband who is always there when I need him. He provides for our family, is a strong priesthood holder, a good family man, and a very generous person. He takes care of me when I feel sick and gives me nice back rubs and foot rubs. He will be a great father to our children and is a good support for me.
  • Christmas movies- I love watching christmas movies... usually they are pretty cheesy but I don't care... cheesy is cute and makes me feel more christmasy!
Well I hope I didn't forget anything... if I did maybe I will add it later. But this really helped me think about the things I am grateful for and often take for granted in my life. I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving and that you are surrounded by those you love.

Baby Chambers

Well, we had our first Ultra sound today and we were able to find out the sex after about 45 minutes. He was being very stubborn with his legs crossed and knees together. I think he was embarrassed and didn't want us to see his goods! She had me turn on my side and my back several times before he actually moved his legs.
This is his face... I don't really see the features or anything but I have a hard time reading these things. I am sure the lady was sick of me because I kept asking her what everything was.
This is his little arm. He had it curled up near his face and you can see his little fingers.
His profile is so cute... she said that he was right up against my placenta. You can see his chin and nose and lips a little bit if you look closely.

FInally after a lot of waiting we are finally able to spot his penis... The long thing under "it's a boy" is his leg and right above that are the boy parts. I was nervous at first because they said that the ultra sound machine was having issues and that they may have to postpone our visit... I was just praying while we were waiting that we would be able to see our little guy. But they were able to take the back up machine out and give us the ultra sound. We will have to go and get another one done in 4 weeks to monitor a "bright spot" she saw on his heart. Hopefully it will be gone and we won't have to worry about any heart problems in the future.

Ryan knew all along that it was a boy since he has had several dreams about a little boy with dark hair... so I guess we will see if this little guy has dark hair or not. It is nice knowing that we can call the baby a him now and not just baby. We are really excited and look forward to getting everything ready for him to arrive in April!

Exciting News...

WELL, if you haven't heard our little secret yet I figured we should let you in on it... Ryan and I are going to have a B-A-B-Y!!! I know a lot of you are thinking... "well it's about time!!!" and it is since we have been married for 4 YEARS! I still can't believe that. We are both done with school, have a house, and a dog and cat. SO the next step was a baby.

I am 14 weeks along, so I just started my 2nd trimester. I haven't gained any weight yet so don't expect any bump pictures because it is non-existent... well expect for the flab that was already there to begin with but I don't think you want a picture of that! It's weird to think that I even have a little person in me since I haven't gained much yet... I have actually lost 6 lbs, but I am sure I will gain it back AND some! I haven't been TOO sick... just nauseated and tired a lot. I have thrown up once... and it was on the side of the road. It was a lovely time!

I keep expecting to see a Belly since my best friend is 10 weeks ahead of me and proudly sporting her baby bump... I just have to keep thinking that mine will come eventually and that I should be happy that I can still wear normal clothes. Ryan says that it will come soon enough and that by the time February rolls around I will be sick of being big and want my normal body back.

I don't have any "feelings" on what sex the baby will be... I really will be fine with either as long as he or she is healthy and cute. We should find out on my 20 week appointment which is a week before Thanksgiving, which is perfect for hitting all those after Thanksgiving sales. ANyway I will try to keep the blog updated better with pictures of me growing and with how I am feeling. At our first appointment the Dr. was saying that it's typical to gain 25-30 lbs during a pregnancy... Ryan was nice enough to point out that I would weigh more than him if I gained that... THANKS HUN that makes me feel real great!
